June 2025 - Licensing Issues Update
In June of 2025, FOSSA released a new, improved version of its dependency analysis functionality that surfaces more comprehensive licensing metadata. Certain dependencies that were previously reported as Unlicensed will now have licenses associated with them.
As a result, some FOSSA customers may see changes on their licensing “Issues” pages. These changes fall into the following categories:
- Existing Licensing Issues resolved: You may see that some Issues that FOSSA surfaced because the dependency was
Unlicensedare now resolved. This would be the case in scenarios where the new license(s) that FOSSA associates with the dependency are acceptable per your licensing policy. - Existing Licensing Issues recategorized: Unlicensed Issues may change from
UnlicensedtoFlaggedorDeniedif the newly reported license matches a rule or fallback in your licensing policy
Note that this update doesn’t change which dependencies are detected, so FOSSA users won’t see any impact to their dependencies list (or the dependencies included in their reports).
